Scotland’s first dedicated Catholic centre for the family opens this
weekend (16 November 2013) on the feast of St Margaret of Scotland. St Margaret’s
Children and Family Care Society, is expanding its services and moving
into bigger and better accommodation.
The Agency which is currently awaiting a ruling from the Scottish
Charities Appeal Tribunal on whether it will be allowed to continue to
operate as a charity, was this month nominated as one of the top three
voluntary adoption agencies in the UK by the British Association of
Adoption and Fostering.
On Saturday, November 16 – appropriately the Feast of St Margaret – the
agency will open the doors to its new “Centre for the Family” at 26
Newton Place, Glasgow.[nbsp] Archbishop Philip Tartaglia will bless the new
centre, which aims to address the many complex issues in modern family
life for people of all faiths and none. It will house Fertility Care
Scotland and will be a new base for the St Margaret of Scotland Youth
Group and will provide educational facilities for families considering
adoption as a positive choice. At the opening there will be testimonies
from families and individuals whose lives have been transformed by St
Margaret’s.
Brian McGuigan of the Board of St Margaret’s said: “The expansion
of our services and premises will be a great boost for staff and the
many families we work with, of all faiths and none, who know of the good
work we do on a daily basis to help find families for children in need.
“Despite the distressing challenges we have faced over the last year
we are committed to improving and expanding our services. St
Margaret’s is Scotland’s smallest voluntary adoption agency but
we have ambitious plans to provide services to families and children
well into the future.”
Archbishop Tartaglia said: “I am delighted that St Margaret’s is
continuing – and indeed expanding[nbsp] – its services. The agency is a real
treasure of the Church in this part of Scotland and it is our hope that
common sense will soon prevail allowing St Margaret’s to do what it
does best – help provide loving homes for children in need and in doing
so creating happy families.”
